American Airlines Creates New Marketing Division

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) _ American Airlines has created a new division responsible for marketing the carrier's operations, research and consulting skills to other businesses, company officials said Thursday.
Donald J. Carty, American's senior vice president for finance and planning, said the division, called American Airlines Decision Technologies, is comprised of the airline's former Operations Research Department.
Thomas M. Cook, who was the managing director for Operations Research, will take over the new division.
''American Airlines Decision Technologies is an analytical consulting group that specializes in applying technology to decision-making,'' Cook said.
In 1987, the Operations Research division of the airline, under Cook, obtained a number of notable contracts, including a computer modeling contract with the Federal Aviation Administration and a yield management contract with Amtrak.
Cook said the establishment of the new division will market the airline's product better and also assist with internal operations.
