Manha Defeats Reidy in Badminton Semifinals

ATLANTA (AP) _ Mark Manha defeated 1992 Olympian and five-time national men's doubles champion Tom Reidy 4-15, 15-8, 15-9 Friday to move into the semifinals of the 1996 Yonex U.S. National Badminton Championships.
Manha, of Miller Place, N.Y., will face defending champion and 1996 Olympic hopeful Kevin Han of Colorado Springs, Colo., on Saturday. Han blew by 1992 Olympian Ben Lee 15-2, 15-1 in another quarterfinal.
The second men's semifinal will pit former British elite player Steve Butler against 1993 men's singles champion Andy Chong.
In women's singles, 1995 champion Andrea Andersson of Colorado Springs blasted Meiling Okuno of Sunnyvale, Colo., 11-1, 11-2 and will face former Arizona State University teammate Liz Aronsohn of Scottsdale, Ariz., in a semifinal match. The other semifinal Saturday will match Tang Yeping and Kathy Zimmerman.
The championships are being held at Georgia State University through Sunday. The event will not determine the Olympic team, but will play a big role in its selection.
