Jan. 07, 2004
WASHINGTON (AP) _ A mild earthquake shook an area near Jackson, Wyo., early Thursday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
Spokesman Butch Kinerney said the tremor registered a magnitude of 4.7 and was centered about 19 miles east-northeast of Jackson. It was recorded at 2:51 a.m. EST, or 12:51 a.m. local time.
He said such tremors are not unusual in the area near Yellowstone National Park and that while it was strong enough to be felt, it was not likely to have caused any damage.
