ORRVILLE, Ohio (AP) _ J.M. Smucker Co. (SJM) on Tuesday reported fiscal first-quarter earnings of $133 million.

The Orrville, Ohio-based company said it had net income of $1.17 per share. Earnings, adjusted for amortization costs and non-recurring costs, came to $1.78 per share.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.81 per share.

The food maker posted revenue of $1.9 billion in the period, also missing Street forecasts. Six analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.95 billion.

Smucker expects full-year earnings in the range of $8.40 to $8.65 per share.

Smucker shares have dropped roughly 7 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has climbed almost 7 percent. The stock has decreased nearly 5 percent in the last 12 months.
