ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) _ Reggie Curry tossed two touchdown passes and Johnny Loper returned a punt 52 yards for a score as South Carolina State rolled to a 37-17 victory over Delaware State.
Eugene James ran for 99 yards and a touchdown and Dennis Walker also scored on a 1-yard run as the Bulldogs (7-1, 3-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic) amassed 403 yards total offense, including 253 rushing.
Delaware State (3-5, 1-3) was held to just 176 total yards, 82 coming on the ground.
The Hornets led 3-0 and 9-7 before South Carolina State scored on the final drive of the first half and three times in the third quarter.
A short punt gave the Bulldogs possession at the Delaware State 27 and, three plays later, Curry hit Bobby McGowens with a 16-yard touchdown pass with 19 seconds left in the half. Glenn Mitts caught a 2-point conversion pass, giving the Bulldogs a 15-9 advantage.
Mitts caught a 20-yard TD pass from Curry, Loper went 52 yards with his punt return and James rambled 31 yards for scores as the Bulldogs put the game away.
McGowens' two catches gave him the Bulldogs' career record with 77, one more than Robert Tyler's mark set from 1984-87. Defensive lineman Chartric Darby had 1 1/2 sacks to give him 34 1/2 in his career, topping the school mark of 34 set by Anthony Cook from 1992-95.
