SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — The former boyfriend of a 17-year-old high school girl who was stabbed to death in her Springfield home has pleaded not guilty to murder.
Twenty-year-old Nickolas Lacrosse also was ordered held without bail Thursday during his arraignment in District Court in Springfield.
Lacrosse is accused of killing Kathryn Mauke, a senior at SABIS International Charter School. Mauke recently was awarded a full, four-year scholarship to American International College after winning the "top delegate" honor at the school's annual Model Congress last month.
Lacrosse's lawyer and a prosecutor didn't reveal details of the killing or information about Lacrosse's background during the arraignment. Lacrosse is set to return to court next month.
Police say Mauke was stabbed multiple times in her home and pronounced dead at the scene Wednesday afternoon.
