Pan Am Ticket Agents Arrested For Keeping Ticket Money
Oct. 14, 1989
NEW YORK (AP) _ Four Pan American World Airways ticket agents at Kennedy International Airport were arrested Friday and charged with stealing up to $48,000 from the airline.
The four agents were charged with falsifying records and larceny, said Bill Cahill, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which runs the airport.
The agents allegedly sold one-way tickets and kept the cash payments instead of placing the money in the register, Cahill said.
The four are charged with stealing up to $48,000 in August and September, although Port Authority detectives believe the agents may have been keeping the cash payments for about a year, he said.
The investigation, conducted at the request of the airline, will continue and more arrests are expected, Cahill said.
The agents were identified as Ellen Lass, 23, Lilana Ruiz, 28, and Devarn Williams, 26, all of New York City; and Cathy Alam, 37, of Copiague.
