CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland Cavaliers starting point guard Derrick Rose will miss at least three more weeks with a nagging left ankle injury. Rose originally injured the ankle Oct. 20 at Milwaukee and has missed Cleveland's past four games. The 29-year-old Rose is averaging 14.3 points in seven games this season.
HOMESTEAD, Fla. (AP) — Martin Truex Jr. had the fastest qualifying time among the four NASCAR Cup Series championship contenders for Sunday's finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Denny Hamlin stole the pole from the regular-season champion on the last lap of qualifying, leaving Truex on the outside of the front row. Of the other Cup contenders, Kyle Busch will start third, Brad Keselowski fifth and Kevin Harvick ninth.
ATLANTA (AP) — John Hart has left the Atlanta Braves, less than a week after being stripped of his role as president of baseball operations. The decision was not unexpected given the hiring of general manager Alex Anthopoulos, who now has autonomy over all baseball-related decisions. Hart was given the title of senior adviser, but clearly had no real power.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) —The Columbus Blue Jackets have locked up All-Star winger Cam Atkinson through the 2024-25 season. Atkinson has signed a seven-year, $41.1 million extension that prevents him from becoming a free agent next summer. The 28-year-old Atkinson has led the Jackets in scoring the last two seasons and has scored 125 goals and 233 points in 397 career NHL games.
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The NFL is investigating an allegation that Buccaneers quarterback Jameis (JAY'-mihs) Winston groped a female Uber driver in March 2016. The Uber driver told BuzzFeed News the incident stems from a 2 a.m. ride after a party in Scottsdale, Arizona. Winston has denied the allegation on his social media accounts.
