CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — A man shot and killed by police in central Wyoming has been identified as 21-year-old William T. McCollum, of Casper.
The Natrona County Coroner's Office released the victim's name Thursday, two days after the incident.
According to the Casper Police Department, one of its officers shot and killed an armed man at a convenience store on Tuesday morning.
Police say the incident began when they received emergency calls about a man pointing a gun at people before leaving in a vehicle. That led to a car chase, which police broke off because of high speeds reached during the pursuit and the proximity to downtown Casper.
The suspect vehicle was then spotted shortly thereafter at a convenience store where the shooting occurred.
The incident remains under investigation.
