SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP) _ Argentina's Boca Juniors won the South American club championship Wednesday night, beating defending champion Palmeiras 4-2 on penalty kicks after a scoreless tie.
Guillermo Barros Schelotto, Juan Roman Riquelme, Martin Palermo and Jorge Bermudez converted penalty kicks for Boca Juniors, and goalkeeper Oscar Cordoba stopped shots by Palmeiras' Faustino Asprilla and Roque Junior.
The teams tied 2-2 last week in Buenos Aires in the first leg of the Liberators Cup final.
Boca Juniors, which also won the title in 1977 and 1978, plays Spain's Real Madrid in Tokyo for the Intercontinental Cup.
