BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) _ Former St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Danny Cox was charged with driving under the influence following a rollover crash that injured his wife.
Cox, who pitched for St. Louis from 1983 to 1988, was eastbound on Illinois 15 on Saturday night when his Ford Expedition struck a parked car, hit a guard rail and rolled over, Illinois State Police said. The SUV landed upright in a ravine.
Nancy Cox was treated and released at a nearby hospital, according to authorities. Cox, who lives in Freeburg, had minor injuries.
In addition to the Cardinals, Cox also pitched for Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Toronto.
His best season was in 1985, when he finished 18-9 with a 2.88 ERA and the Cardinals won the National League pennant.
He finished his career in 1995 with a record of 74-75 and a 3.64 ERA.
