Four In Family Found Shot; Two Die
Dec. 11, 1986
RUTHERFORDTON, N.C. (AP) _ A father and son died today after they were shot while they slept in their home, and the daughter, who made a vain call for help, and the mother were wounded, authorities said.
Raymond Edward Shytle, 45, and Eric Lamar Shytle, 11, died after the shootings, which occurred about 3:30 a.m., said Gene ''Pat'' Patterson, chief deputy for the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department.
''We have no evidence of forcible entry,'' said Patterson, who declined to elaborate. ''We do have a suspect and warrants will be issued.''
The 15-year-old daughtert, Ronda Kay Shytle, was in good condition at Rutherford Hospital, where she was treated for a gunshot wound to the face, Patterson said. She was shot while she slept and apparently tried to call authorities shortly thereafter, authorities said.
The mother, Wanda Jean Shytle, 42, underwent surgery at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in neighboring South Carolina for a gunshot wound to the head, authorities said. She was found wandering outside the house.
At 3:31 a.m., a call was made to the emergency number in Rutherford County from the Shytle home, but the call was cut off, Patterson said. Officers later found the phone line had been torn off the outside of the home. Two minutes later, a second call came from a neighbor, who reported hearing gunshots.
