One Marine Dead, One Wounded in Shooting at Marine Base

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (AP) _ A Marine was arrested for allegedly killing a superior officer and critically wounding another when he opened fire Tuesday inside Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base.
Sgt. Jessie A. Quintinilla was arrested after his superior officers were shot in the chest at the Marine Corps Air Station, said Lt. Col. Jerry Broeckert, a camp spokesman.
The victims were high-ranking officers of Marine Logistics Squadron 39, where Quintinilla was assigned to the supply section. A motive for the shooting was not known, Broeckert said.
Lt. Col. Daniel W. Kidd, the squadron's executive officer, was pronounced dead at 3:28 p.m. at the Camp Pendleton Naval Hospital. Lt. Col. Thomas A. Heffner, the squadron's commanding officer, was hospitalized in serious condition, officials said.
