Bomb Explodes in Czech Republic
Dec. 07, 1997
PRAGUE, Czech Republic (AP) _ A small bomb exploded in front of the finance minister's house early Saturday, shattering three windows, Czech state radio reported.
Finance Minister Ivan Pilip and his family were in the house at the time of the blast but there were no injuries, the radio quoted police spokesman Josef Sulcek as saying.
It was not immediately clear whether the explosion was intended to target or intimidate Pilip, the radio said. nevertheless called the incident a ``serious matter.''
``It might be a work of the underworld since Minister Pilip has recently said he was determined to step up his struggle against economic criminality and investigate all the contentious privatization cases,'' said Interior Minister Jindrich Vodicka.
Pilip was one of two prominent members of the ruling Civic Democratic Party to demand Premier Vaclav Klaus' resignation last week over a campaign finance scandal. Klaus stepped down on Nov. 29.
