LANSING, Mich. (AP) _ A Michigan State University student celebrating his 21st birthday died after drinking 24 shots of alcohol, authorities said Friday.

Friends had scribbled ``24 shots'' on Bradley John McCue and painted his nose red after he passed out, police said.

Ingham County Medical Examiner Dr. Dean Sienko said McCue had a .44 percent blood alcohol level when he died, four times the legal limit for drunkenness.

His body was found by police around 8:45 a.m. Thursday after his roommates called to report that he wasn't breathing.

Sienko said McCue's blood-alcohol level was consistent with witness reports that McCue had 24 shots of alcohol over a period of less than two hours. Sienko did not know what kind of alcohol McCue was drinking.

East Lansing Police Capt. Louis Muhn said police haven't finished their investigation and don't know whether charges will be filed in the case.
