ROCKFORD, Ala. (AP) — Authorities are searching for a 27-year-old man who they say escaped from custody at a county jail.
Coosa County Sheriff Terry Wilson said Shane Anthony Vernon was being processed into the Coosa County Jail on felony charges Sunday when he removed his restraints and ran from the facility.
Al.com reports that Vernon was last seen in the Rockford area on foot.
He was wearing a red or maroon hooded sweat shirt, grey baggy sweat pants and black tennis shoes.
Authorities said he has several tattoos including "ride or die" on his right fist, and a Chinese symbol on the right side of his neck. He has warrants for third-degree burglary and second-degree theft of property.
Coosa County is about 60 miles (100 kilometers) southeast of Birmingham.
