OSAKA, Japan (AP) _ The U.S. men's national volleyball team, captained by Karch Kiraly, beat the Japanese team 15-12, 15-13, 17-15 Saturday in the first match of a two- match series in Japan.
It was the U.S. team's 19th straight victory over Japan.
The second match will be held in Hiroshima Sunday.
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) - American Peter Teravanien won the Maruman Golf Classic by five strokes Saturday. First place was worth $2,800.
Teravanien, 31, who was in third place Friday, carded a 3-under-par 69 for a total of 295. Yoshiyuki Ohmori of Japan shot a final-round 70 and finished second with 300.
The overnight leader, Thailand's Boonchu Ruangchit, had to settle for third place at 301 after carding a 77 Saturday.
LONDON (AP) - Arsenal defeated Norwich 4-2 Saturday and recaptured the lead in the First Division of the English League soccer standings.
It was Arsenal's 13th consecutive victory, but the north London team could drop out of first place when Liverpool plays Manchester United on Sunday.
The Queens Park Rangers hung on to third place after a 1-1 tie at Tottenham Hotspur, while defending champion Everton posted a 3-1 victory over West Ham United.
Arsenal has 35 points in 15 games, three points ahead of Liverpool, which has three games in hand. Queens Park has 31 points and Forest, which has played 14 games, has 30. Everton is in fifth place but is 10 points behind Arsenal.
