Wall Street Stocks Open Higher
Mar. 15, 2001
NEW YORK (AP) _ Stock prices have opened higher with the Dow Jones industrial average up 122 points in today's early going. Advancing issues on the New York Stock Exchange hold about a 3-2 lead over decliners.
The Nasdaq composite index is ahead 57 points and the S&P 500 is up 13 points.
Overnight, stocks staged a furious rally in Tokyo as concerned faded from yesterday about the health of Japanese banks.
Also, cellphone maker Nokia came out with a forecast saying that although sales growth is weaker, profits remain on track.
And so Wall Street is continuing its pattern of trading down one day, up the next.
But there are any number of analysts on Wall Street who say investors have yet to give up all hope, meaning there likely is more downside potential for the market.
