NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ BR549's new album, ``This Is BR549,'' is off to a good start, with the first single, ``Too Lazy to Work, Too Nervous to Steal,'' getting some early airplay.

``We passed the Texas litmus test,'' singer-guitarist Chuck Mead told The Associated Press. ``KIKK (radio) has added the single down in Houston. Texas is pretty country.''

The 40-year-old Mead, who wrote the single, said the band's songwriting has been overshadowed by its vast repertoire of country music classics.

``When you have a five-hour shift to cover, unless you're Bob Dylan, you can't cover that with original songs,'' he said. ``People would come up to you and give you $5 to play a song. That's how we were making our living.''
