WEST DOVER, Vt. (AP) _ A 16-year-old skier ran into more than loose snow on the slopes of a southern Vermont ski resort. She ran into a deer.

Andrea Spieth hit the deer Monday while skiing with her family at the Mount Snow Ski Resort.

''It ran across the trail,'' she said, ''and I ran right into it.''

The Barrington, R.I., high school junior fell, but the deer kept going as several other skiers and a ski instructor watched.

Spieth said colliding with the deer was like running into a rock.

Physicians who treated her for a sprained ligament in her thumb ''thought I was crazy'' when she told them how she acquired her injury. ''But somebody called up and confirmed it - that they saw a girl hit by a deer.''
