SIU PRESIDENT DISPUTE
CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois University's president could be placed on administrative leave during a Friday meeting by the officers of the school's board of trustees. ATF AGENT SHOT
GARY, Ind. — An agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was shot several times and critically wounded during an undercover operation in northwestern Indiana in which a suspect was killed, authorities said Thursday. The agent was hospitalized in critical but stable condition after being shot multiple times. SENT: 350 words. Will be updated on merits.
— FATAL CRASH ARREST: Illinois State Police have arrested an Indiana man in connection with a crash that left a 3-year-old child dead. Authorities say the man was driving in the Chicago suburbs March 23 when he failed to stop for a car stalled in Interstate 90 traffic.
— BROTHERS-BANK FRAUD TRIAL: Two brothers from Chicago who were convicted of using stolen identities to obtain millions of dollars in fraudulent airplane loans from several banks have each been sentenced to more than a decade in prison.
— POLICE SHOOTING-QUINCY: A western Illinois prosecutor says no charges will be filed against a Quincy police officer who fatally shot a man last month. Adams County State's Attorney Gary Farha says witness statements and physical evidence from the scene show the officer made a "reasonable, rational and appropriate choice to use deadly force."
CHICAGO — Kris Bryant and the Chicago Cubs open a three-game series against Corey Dickerson and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
