SAN DIEGO (AP) _ Mike Piazza tied a New York Mets club record for the second time this season when he homered in his fourth straight game Monday night.

Piazza drove a 2-2 pitch from San Diego's Sterling Hitchcock an estimated 448 feet into the second deck at Qualcomm Stadium to give the Mets a 1-0 lead in the second inning. It was his 27th this season.

It was the seventh time a Mets player accomplished the feat. Piazza also homered in four straight games from May 17-21.

Piazza's shot was the 24th to reach the second deck in 31 seasons. He became the first opponent to hit two loge launches. The first was Sept. 22, 1996, when he was with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
