ARAB, Ala. (AP) — Arab's assistant police chief is being treated for a fractured vertebrae after he swerved to avoid a vehicle and ended up in a ditch.
WAAY-TV reports Shane Washburn was headed north on Highway 69 about 7:15 a.m. Thursday when a vehicle crossing the highway failed to yield. Washburn swerved and ended up in the ditch.
Police Chief Ed Ralston says Washburn was released from Marshall Medical Center North with a fractured L1 vertebrae. He is expected to return to work Monday.
A passenger in the patrol vehicle was not injured.
Police say the driver of the other vehicle was not cited. Ralston says foggy conditions provided very low visibility, and the wreck was a direct result of the weather conditions.
