NEWBURYPORT, Mass. (AP) — Two people have been injured — one seriously — in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Newburyport.

State Police Lt. Dan Richard tells The Boston Globe (bo.st/16SAm4q) that a tractor-trailer, a pickup truck and a sedan crashed into each other on I-95 around 7 p.m. Sunday near the Whittier Bridge.

A male passenger from the sedan was thrown from the car and has been airlifted to a Boston hospital. The sedan's driver, a woman, was taken to a local hospital. The drivers of the two other vehicles were not injured.

The victims' names have not been released.

Richard says an investigation is continuing.
