Bears' Conway, Matthews Sidelined
Nov. 12, 1999
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) _ Wide receiver Curtis Conway and quarterback Shane Matthews are out; quareterback Cade McNown is in.
Conway will miss his fifth game with a sprained ankle and Matthews will sit out one more week because of a pulled hamstring, Chicago Bears coach Dick Jauron said Friday.
Conway, the NFC's leading receiver when he got hurt, was optimistic earlier this week that he'd be able to play Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. He ran Wednesday and practiced Thursday without much pain.
But the ankle is still sore, Jauron said, estimating Conway was about 85 percent healthy.
Matthews missed two games after pulling the hamstring, then reinjured it against Washington. The Bears don't want to risk him reinjuring it, so he'll rest it for one more week.
McNown, who has a sprained knee, will be the No. 2 quarterback, but he won't play unless Jim Miller gets hurt, Jauron said. McNown will wear a brace.
