TACOMA, Wash. (AP) _ A man shot and critically injured his wife with a shotgun at their home Monday and killed another man before turning the gun on himself despite pleas from authorities to give up, police said.

Two dogs were found shot dead at the house, said police spokesman Gary Wiggin.

A special police squad was called after fire department paramedics responded to shooting injuries about 4:15 a.m., said Wiggin.

The gunman's brother said his brother had called him earlier and told him he had shot his wife and another man, police said.

After police failed to persuade the man to surrender, officers entered the house and found the two men dead and the woman wounded. She was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, where she was reported in critical condition, Wiggin said.

The names of the victims were not immediately available.
