Two Inmates Apparently Commit Suicide
Mar. 10, 1986
BALTIMORE (AP) _ Two Maryland Penitentiary inmates apparently committed suicide Sunday by hanging themselves with sheets in separate parts of the prison, officials said.
A 30-year-old inmate serving a life term for attempted murder and a 30-year term for armed robbery was discovered in his cell in administrative segregation, where he had been sent for a disciplinary infraction, said penitentiary spokesman Beverly Marable.
His name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The second inmate, Edward Thomas Mann, 41, of Mitchellville, was found dead about five hours later in his cell in the general prison population, Marable said.
Mann was serving three life sentences plus 1,080 years for murder, attempted murder and handgun violations, Marable said. He was sentenced in 1984 for a shooting spree at IBM offices in Bethesda, where he burst in and began randomly shooting at employees.
