Skinhead Convicted in Beating Death of Homeless Black Man
Aug. 13, 1994
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) _ A second white supremacist was convicted of murder in the slaying of a homeless black man.
Louis Oddo, 20, was convicted by a Jefferson County jury on Thursday in the Christmas Eve killing.
Prosecutors say Douglas Garrett, 50, was beaten with a baseball bat and kicked repeatedly with heavy boots.
Another skinhead, Adam Galleon pleaded guilty to Garrett's murder last year and was sentenced to 25 years in prison. He first implicated Oddo in the slaying, then testified this week that Oddo was not involved.
However, a fellow skinhead, Trinity Poppell, testified that he saw Oddo and Galleon both attacking Garrett under a viaduct in downtown Birmingham.
An attorney for Oddo said he would appeal. Sentencing was set for Sept. 16.
