BOSTON (AP) — A former high-ranking member of the Shriners fraternal organization already facing state child pornography charges is now facing related federal charges.

Federal prosecutors announced Thursday that 61-year-old Gardner Whitney of Westfield has been charged with possession of child pornography and sexually exploitation of a child.

Whitney is the former president of the Melha Shriners chapter of Greater Springfield.

The federal indictment alleges that between June 2010 and December 2011, Whitney used a minor to produce child pornography and that he possessed child pornography.

Whitney is being held on $25,000 bail after pleading not guilty to the state charges.

He will be arraigned on the federal charges in U.S. District Court in Springfield.
