Mar. 19, 1998
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) _ A Boeing 727 en route from southern Afghanistan to the capital was missing today, airline officials said.
There was no immediate information about the number of people on board the state-owned Ariana Airlines aircraft, which took off from Kandahar airport at noon local time for the two-hour flight to Kabul. The airplane is capable of carrying at least 150 people.
In January, an Ariana aircraft crashed in southwestern Pakistan after it ran out of fuel, killing all 51 people on board.
There was no immediate comment from Afghanistan's Taliban rulers, who control both Kandahar and Kabul.
