Nov. 28, 1986
TOKYO (AP) _ A moderate earthquake rocked Tokyo Saturday morning. It lasted about 30 seconds and caused buildings to sway, but there were no reports of injury or damage.
The earthquake occurred at 7:29 a.m. (5:29 p.m. Friday EST) and was centered in Ibaraki prefecture (state) north of Tokyo, where it measured 6.0 on the Richter scale, meteorlogical officials said.
The Richter scale is a gauge of the energy released by an earthquake, as measured by the ground motion recorded on a seismograph. A quake of magnitude 6 can cause severe damage in populated areas.
