Kenya Bus Plunge Kills 11

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) _ A crowded bus plunged into a river in western Kenya Saturday, killing at least 11 passengers.
The accident comes the same week as Kenya's deadliest-ever bus accident, a fiery head-on collision between two buses in which 74 passengers burned alive.
The latest accident occurred when a bus hit a pothole and careened into the Gianchera river, traffic patrol officer Thomas Atipo said. Sixty-six seriously injured survivors were hospitalized, Atipo said.
The accident happened 150 miles northwest of Nairobi.
Although long-distance buses in Kenya generally are licensed to carry only 62 passengers, most carry many more _ often, double the official limit.
