KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — FIFA Vice President Michel Platini arrived in Afghanistan Sunday to lend his support to the country's national football association.

Platini, who is also UEFA President, was in Kabul for a day trip. He said "I think it was time to come and pay respect to the Afghan National Association."

He added "I am very proud to be in Afghanistan."

The Afghanistan national team recently beat India 2-0 in the South Asian Football Federation Championship for the country's first international title.
