SEATTLE (AP) _ Detlef Schrempf scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds Thursday night in leading Washington to a 60-58 Pac-10 Conference basketball victory over No. 19 Arizona.

Arizona forward Eddie Smith, who led the Wildcats with 16 points, was at the free throw line with one second to play. He threw the ball off the backboard in an attempt to get it to a teammate for a possible tying basket, but Washington's Kevin Vidato foiled the strategy by catching the ball as time expired.

The loss left Arizona and Washington at 20-8 overall and tied at 11-5 in the Pac-10, one-half game back of Southern California, which took an 11-4 mark into Thursday night's game with UCLA.

The victory in his final home game boosted the record of retiring Washington Coach Marv Harshman to 640-446 in 40 years of coaching.
