Pope to Visit Czech Republic Next May

PRAGUE, Czech Republic (AP) _ Pope John Paul II plans to visit the Czech Republic for two days in May, the Czech news agency CTK reported Thursday.
Miloslav Fiala, spokesman for the Czech Bishops' Conference that invited the pope, said John Paul would visit Prague and the town of Olomouc during his visit May 20-21, CTK reported. Details of the schedule still are to be worked out.
The first papal visit to the Czech Republic, which then was still part of the former Czechoslovakia, took place in April 1990. The Pope then visited Prague, Velehrad and Bratislava, now the capital of Slovakia
Czechoslovakia split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia in January 1993.
According to CTK, the Pope will not travel to Slovakia during his visit.
