DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP) _ Two bomb blasts near Dhaka's main bus terminal, about two blocks from the presidential palace, injured nine people today, witnesses said.
Witnesses told The Associated Press two handmade bombs exploded in quick succession near the bus terminal, which for the last week has been the scene of clashes between rival transport workers who are seeking rights to operate profitable private bus lines.
Witnesses said the injured included a traffic policeman. Only four people required hospitalization, police said.
Fourteen people were arrested, a policeman on the scene said, but police officials did not elaborate.
Meanwhile, private buses and minibuses remained off Dhaka city roads for the seventh straight day. Some government-owned buses were operating.
Armed police were posted near the terminal as tension remained high among transport workers.
