GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — An international airport in North Carolina may receive a new name as part of a bid to advance its position.

The News & Record of Greensboro reports Piedmont Triad Partnership economic development agency co-chair Nido Qubein said Monday that community leaders have been discussing a name change for the Piedmont Triad International Airport near Greensboro for months.

Qubein, who is also president of High Point University, declined to share possibilities for a new name, and the chairman of the Piedmont Triad Airport Authority, Steve Showfety, wouldn't say whether the airport would change its name.

The possibility of a name change comes as the airport prepares to create a master plan for revamping the terminal, as part of a broader initiative to remain competitive that Showfety calls "renew, refresh and refocus."
