Man Allegedly Kills Two Young Sons
Jul. 23, 2001
WATKINSVILLE, Ga. (AP) _ A man fatally shot his two young sons and himself Monday, while his wife and two stepchildren slept unharmed in another part of the family's home.
Howard Ronald Dozier shot 5-year-old Jonathan and 10-year-old Christian in the bedroom the boys shared, said Jim Fullington of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Dozier then shot himself in the boys' room, police said.
His wife, Beverly, and her two teen-age children from a previous marriage were asleep at the time of the shootings and were not injured, said David Kilpatrick, an investigator with the Oconee County Sheriff's Department.
Dozier, 58, who worked as a carpet installer, did not leave a letter or any notes discussing his action, Kilpatrick said.
However, the couple had been seeking professional counseling for their marriage, which was the second for both, Kilpatrick said. He said it was not clear how long the couple had been having marital problems.
