Vermont moose hunting lottery set for Saturday in Barre
Jul. 29, 2017
BARRE, Vt. (AP) — The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife is going to be holding its annual moose hunting permit lottery.
The Saturday drawing at the Barre Fish and Game Club will be for 80 total permits, 63 regular season permits and 17 archery season permits.
The number of permits is reduced slightly from last year's total of 165. Permits this year will only be issued for bull moose.
Vermont has an estimated moose population of about 1,750 with most concentrated in the Northeast Kingdom.
The number of moose in Vermont has fallen below the ideal number. Biologists hope that fewer moose permits will enable the herd to expand.
