PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (AP) _ Todd Fischer, unsuccessful in eight trips to the PGA Tour qualifying school, shot his second straight 5-under-par 67 on Friday to take a two-stroke lead in the Pebble Beach Invitational.
``I hit the ball well from tee to green,'' said Fischer, a former University of San Francisco player. ``I hate to be a complainer, but as well as I've played, I haven't made a good putt yet.''
PGA Tour player Kevin Sutherland was second after a 67 at Pebble Beach, one of three courses used in the tournament featuring players from the PGA, LPGA, Senior PGA, and Buy.com tours as well as club professionals and amateurs.
Senior tour player Andy North was three strokes back after a 70 at Spyglass Hill. Rich Beem and Dan Pooley, who equaled the day's best round with a 65 at Pebble Beach, followed at 138. Beem shot 67 at Spyglass.
Wendy Ward, the two-winner LPGA Tour winner who held a two-stroke lead after the first round, shot a 74 at Spyglass for a 139 total.
The winner will earn $60,000 from the $300,000 purse.
