Lohse to miss start because of elbow irritation
May. 22, 2013
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Right-hander Kyle Lohse will miss his next scheduled turn in the Milwaukee Brewers' rotation because of irritation in his pitching elbow.
Mike Fiers will start in place of Lohse on Saturday against visiting Pittsburgh.
Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke made the announcement before Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Lohse signed a $33 million, three-year contract with Milwaukee a week before opening day and is 1-5 with a 3.76 ERA. According to Roenicke, Lohse felt discomfort two or three starts ago.
"He could go out and pitch," said Roenicke, who expects Lohse to miss just one start. "But because he didn't have a spring training, we would rather try to get rid of this, so we're going to bump him a start."
Fiers is 1-2 with a 5.93 ERA in one start and seven relief appearances, getting the win in relief Tuesday against the Dodgers.
