Extra $1.3M in grants available for school security jobs
Jul. 24, 2018
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Virginia is making an additional $1.3 million available to cities and counties to fund school resource officer and security officer positions.
Gov. Ralph Northam's office announced Monday that localities can apply for a new cycle of one-time 12-month grants to fund the jobs after the General Assembly authorized the additional spending.
The grant requirements have also been modified in an attempt to make hiring officers easier. The maximum amount of funding per job has increased, from $50,000 to $70,000 for school resource officers, who are certified law enforcement officials, and from $22,000 to $35,000 for a security officer.
In addition, localities will now be able to provide in-kind services to meet their match requirement of the grant.
