ROCKLAND, Maine (AP) — Summer in Maine is all about lobster, and the state's annual celebration of its most famous seafood export is in full swing.

The Maine Lobster Festival began Wednesday in Rockland and is running until Sunday. The festival expects to serve some 20,000 pounds of butter to festival-goers from all over the country.

The festival's also packed with other events, including music, games and a Saturday parade. Friday's events include an amateur seafood cooking contest and an all-day art show.

The fest is taking place during a transitional time for the Maine lobster fishery. Maine fishermen caught more than 110 million pounds of lobster last year. That represented a drop of more than 20 million pounds from the previous year, but was still much higher than the hauls of the 2000s.
