PHOENIX (AP) — Hall of Fame manager Tony La Russa is leaving the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. La Russa served as chief baseball officer from 2015 to 2016 and became chief baseball analyst. La Russa said in a statement that the job was "more demanding" than he'd realized.

BOSTON (AP) — The Milwaukee Bucks opened their season with a 108-100 victory over Boston to spoil the homecoming of a Celtics team coming off a late and emotional season opener. The Celtics fell to 0-2 by giving up an 11-1 run that left Milwaukee with a 97-90 lead and under three minutes to play.

BOSTON (AP) — Gordon Hayward has undergone surgery to repair the ankle he mangled in the Celtics' season opener. An awkward landing in Cleveland on Tuesday night left Hayward with a broken left tibia and dislocated ankle. Hayward is expected to make a full recovery, but it's not known if he will be able to return this season.
