KENT, Ohio (AP) _ Wasean Tait had 164 yards for 28 carries and one touchdown to lead Toledo to a 45-27 victory over Kent State in the Midwest Athletic Conference on Saturday.
Tait scored on a 4-yard run in the fourth.
Toledo (3-5 overall, 2-3 MAC) started the scoring early in the first quarter when Ainsworth Morgan returned the opening kickoff for 81 yards. Kent (0-8, 0-6) came back with a 40-yard drive after an interception and Brian Dusho scored on an 18-yard pass from Mike Acie to tie the score.
The Rockets recovered after Kent State fumbled a punt on the 15-yard line and Ryan Huzjak scored. With one minute remaining in the first quarter, Reggie Walls scored on a 4-yard run.
In the second quarter, Acie scored on a 1-yard run capping a 13-play, 55- yard drive by the Golden Flashes. Scott Brunswick scored for Toledo on a 17-yard pass from Hujak. Mark Spring made a field goal with 50 seconds left in the half to give Toledo a 31-14 lead.
Toledo opened scoring in the second half on a 3-yard run by Reggie Walls, but Reggie Carter then scored on a 1-yard run for Kent State.
Sean Patterson returned an interception for a 53-yard touchdown with 8:19 remaining in the third.
