Mobil Earnings Soar on Marketing, Refining; Other Companies Report G 0 in from an accounting change.

Undated (AP) _ Occidental Petroleum Corp. said its first-quarter earnings rose 26 percent with a big boost from a tax benefit linked to the company's restructuring. The company also reported higher oil and gas earnings 0 climbed to $442 million, a surge of $350 million from the $92 million posted in the first three months of 1990. The company's domestic business reflected higher refining margins and a recovery in sales of premium gasoline, while over 0 gas amid the recession and warmer-than-usual weather in the United States.

Mobil's chemical division recorded earnings of $92 million, up $9 million from a year earlier. Amoco Corp.

Amoco said it earned $8 0 ange, its earnings would have risen 6 percent.

Revenue totaled $7.29 billion 0 up from $129 million a year earlier.

Earnings from exploration and production fell to $218 million from $247 million a year earlier due to lower natural gas prices and domestic crude output and higher exploration expenses.

The company's chemical operations reported earnings of $83 million, down from $85 million a year earlier, the result of lower sales volumes and margins. Amoco blamed the drop on the recession, xhich has reducedf $5.3 billion for the quarter. That compares with earnings of $108 million, or 37 cents per share, on sales of $5.16 billion in the first quarter of 1990.
