NEW YORK (AP) _ Gary Roberts of the Toronto Maple Leafs was suspended for three exhibition games on Tuesday for abusing an official at the end of a 5-4 victory over Ottawa.

The Toronto forward also was fined $1,000. He'll miss games against Detroit on Wednesday and against Buffalo on Thursday and Saturday.

Roberts was assessed a game misconduct Sunday after trying to wrest himself from linesman Scott Driscoll. Roberts, blood streaming down his face, was attempting to get to Chris Neil of the Senators.

Roberts became infuriated when Neil checked him just after the final buzzer. Roberts was cut over his left eye.
