Carnegie Hall season features festival on migration
Jan. 25, 2018
NEW YORK (AP) — Carnegie Hall's 2018-19 season features a five-week festival devoted to "Migrations: The Making of America."
The festival, which will run from March 9 to April 15, 2019, will focus on three periods: the arrival of immigrants from Scotland and Ireland in the 18th and 19th centuries; the influx of Jews from Russia and Eastern Europe from 1881 to 1924; and the move of African-Americans from the South to other parts of the United States from 1917 into the 1970s.
Concerts include Scottish, Irish and bluegrass music with Chris Thile; "From Shtetl to Stage: A Celebration of Yiddish Music and Culture"; and concerts by jazz pianist Jason Moran and mezzo-soprano Alicia Hall Moran. More than three dozen cultural institutions in the New York area will participate.
The season opens Oct. 3.
