NEW YORK (AP) — New York Rangers forward Daniel Carcillo has received an automatic 10-game suspension after he was ejected for physical abuse of officials during Game 3 of the NHL's Eastern Conference finals against Montreal.
Carcillo was punished by the NHL on Friday after he appeared to twice elbow linesman Scott Driscoll, who was trying to keep Carcillo away from a fight in Thursday's game.
The NHL also suspended Montreal forward Brandon Prust for two games for his hit on the Rangers' Derek Stepan, which broke the forward's jaw. Prust wasn't penalized on the play.
Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said Stepan's playing status for the rest of the series will be determined after he undergoes surgery.
Montreal won Game 3 3-2 in overtime to cut New York's series lead to 2-1.
