NEW YORK (AP) — The Texas Rangers say Martin Perez has been placed on the 10-day disabled list after injuring the thumb on his non-pitching hand in an accident at the team hotel. The team says Perez ripped off the finger nail and broke a bone at the tip of his right thumb when he caught it in the hinge of a door Thursday night in New York. Infielder-outfielder Drew Robinson was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock before today's game against the Yankees in New York.
CHICAGO (AP) — The Oakland Athletics have promoted infielder Franklin Barreto from Triple-A Nashville and placed infielder Chad Pinder on the 10-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain. The 21-year-old Barreto is considered the top prospect in Oakland's farm system. Pinder, playing shortstop, left last night's 3-0 win against the Chicago White Sox in the fifth inning after trying to field Yolmer Sanchez's grounder.
HAMILTON, Bermuda (AP) — Emirates Team New Zealand has won win its fifth straight race in the America's Cup, benefiting from two penalties against two-time defending champion Oracle Team USA. The Kiwis and helmsman Peter Burling lead 4-0 and need to win three more races to return the cup to the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron in Auckland for the first time since 2003.
BAKU, Azerbaijan (AP) — Lewis Hamilton has moved to second on the all-time list for Formula One pole positions, when he used a brilliant late surge to beat Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix today. The British driver's 66th pole moves him one ahead of Ayrton Senna and just two behind Michael Schumacher's record of 68.
PARIS (AP) — French President Emmanuel Macron (eh-mahn-yoo-EHL' mah-KROHN') has exchanged a few hits with tennis players on an outdoor court set up on a Paris bridge to promote the capital's bid for the 2024 Olympics. Then he took off his suit jacket and sat on a wheelchair to play para-tennis. He also went to a floating boxing ring set up on the Seine River. Paris is competing against Los Angeles to host the games.
